DiveSmart Agreement DiveSmart AgreementScuba diving / snorkelling / freediving is an incredible way to spend time exploring the world beneath the surface. We all love it, and look forward to sharing some time in the water with you. But before we dive in, below is an outline of some of the important safe diving practices that all participants need to be aware of. This is not everything, but is an overview of basic standards that we want all our participants to be aware of, and to agree to. As a diver/snorkeller/freediver I agree to:Me, and my physical and mental wellbeing Know my fitness level. Don’t push past my own limits. Maintain a level of fitness appropriate for my activity Take responsibility for my own safety Communicate clearly and honestly with my supervisor at all times Make sure that I am mentally fit for my activity before I go. Be honest about my abilities. Make sure I can swim, I am feeling well and able to participate My travel/medical insurance covers the activity that I am engaging in I will obtain a doctor’s clearance, if required to do so. Breathe properly. Never hold my breath I will make sure that I have the appropriate training for the activity that I am engaging in. I won’t attempt something that I have not been instructed in If it has been a while since I last participated in the activity, I will refresh my knowledge and skills If I want to advance my skills, I will engage in further instruction and progress with supervision.Before I jump in, and on the day I will make sure that I am familiar with the area / site that I am visiting. If I am not, I will ensure that I am with someone who is. Evaluate conditions on the day. Weather, currents, waves as well as my own comfort. If it’s not looking good today, don’t push it I will not engage in an activity that I am not trained in. Do not break limits or certification standards. Respect my supervisor. Listen carefully to instructions, recommendations, and briefings Keep to the buddy system. Always stay with my assigned partner and group Plan my activity and stick to the plan. Make sure that I know how to properly plan my dive Make sure that I adhere to any local laws or regulationsEquipment Always ensure that I have the correct equipment for my activity. Mask, snorkel, fins, buoyancy control device, regulator, alternate regulator, compass, knife, pressure gauge, air gauge, low-pressure inflator, surface marker buoy and computer Check my equipment prior to use. Make sure that everything is in good working order and well maintained After use, properly store equipment and maintain anything needed Ensure that I have a quick-release weight systemRespect for the environment Buoyancy is very important to protect the fragile marine environment. I will make sure that I am able to control my buoyancy whilst in the water Do not take or leave anything. This is not my home. Respect that I am a visitor Remember to have a suitable surface signalling device so that I can be seen from boats or shore I, , understand that the above points are the basic standards that I need to follow in order to safely undertake my activity.
